KEARNEY — The Museum of Nebraska Art (MONA) offers Wood Relief Carving class on Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2025.

Paint-filled Maple Leaf Relief Carving Class
September 24 | 6:30- 8 p.m.

Relief carving is a sculptural technique in which figures or designs project from a flat background rather than being fully 3D. In this form of sculpture, the image is raised from the surface it’s carved into, creating a three-dimensional effect. In this class, taught by Ed Wilcox (Kearney), participants will carve and paint a six-inch maple leaf in aspen wood. Instruction will involve using and maintaining palm gouges. The class is open to ages 18 and up and is limited to 6. Registration costs $15 for MONA members and $20 for non-members. All tools and materials will be provided.

Ed Wilcox started carving in 2015 and is a member of the Central Nebraska Wood Carvers club.
