HASTINGS — Two juvenile children were killed as the result of an accident on a country road intersection southeast of Hastings during the afternoon of Monday, Sept. 15.
According to the Adams County Sheriff’s Department, deputies responded at 4:45 p.m. to the scene of a two-vehicle accident at the uncontrolled intersection of Saddlehorn Road and Riverview Ave.
An eastbound pickup drive by Blake Whitcomb, 33, of Hastings collided with a northbound farm silage truck, driven by Dale Feik, 66, of Harvard.
Two juvenile passengers, ages seven and ten of the eastbound pickup were pronounced deceased at the scene. The two drivers were transported by ambulance to Mary Lanning Hospital.
The next of kin have been notified.
The Nebraska State Patrol, Hastings Rural Fire Department, Glenvil Fire and Rescue, and Hastings Fire and Rescue assisted at the scene. The Nebraska State Patrol is conducting an accident reconstruction.
Alcohol is not suspected to be a factor and restraint use is unknown at this time.
The accident remains under investigation and additional details will follow, according to the Adams County Sheriff’s Department.
