KGFW Claims Four Pinnacle Awards at NBA Convention

LA VISTA – Wednesday night was one to remember for KGFW Radio, as the Kearney based station won four total Pinnacle Bank Awards – including three Gold awards – as part of the Nebraska Broadcaster Association’s Convention.

During the conclusion of the evening ceremonies, awards are presented from the NBA to stations that nominated themselves for differing categories. Nominations are sent annually to another state’s broadcasters’ association panel to determine Bronze, Silver, and Gold award winners.

KGFW’s News Director Liz Macias earned Gold in two categories – Service to Business, Industry and Community for Radio while also winning the coveted and highly competitive Best Newscast. In sports, KGFW Sports Director Austin Jacobsen and football analyst Ford Clark earned a Gold Award for Best Sports Play-by-Play for their broadcast of the Kearney High Football upset over Bellevue West during the 2022 season. Dean Erickson also joined the team as a statistician to provide analysis during the broadcast. Additionally, Jacobsen was assisted by sports reporter Alex Hammeke in the coverage of the hiring of new UNK Football Head Coach Ryan Held in late December, earning the sports department a Bronze award for Best In Depth Sports Story or Series. NRG Media Central Nebraska also earned a Bronze award in the category for Best Promotional Announcement for 107.7 The Island’s “Mow Your Grass Off Campaign.”
