SWEET SIXTEEN BEGINS WITH UPSETS, CONTINUE TONIGHT:

The Sweet Sixteen turned bitter for three of the four higher seeds on Thursday night, as only top-rated UConn escaped with a win.

The Huskies blasted last year’s national runner-up in a 82-52 win, while fellow one-seed North Carolina fell to Alabama 89-87. Both two-seeds dropped as well, with Arizona falling to Clemson and Illinois downing Iowa State 72-69.

Today’s action features Marquette and NC State, Purdue battling Gonzaga, Houston faces Duke in Dallas, and Tennessee matches up with Creighton.

The Women’s Sweet Sixteen also begins today with all games on ESPN. Notre Dame takes on Oregon State, South Carolina faces Indiana, Stanford will battle NC State, and Texas matches up with Gonzaga.

Full schedules, results, game times, TV designations, and more can be found at KGFW and Central Nebraska Today.

KEARNEY ADJUSTS HOME TRIANGULAR TO RYDER PARK:

The blizzard from Monday and Tuesday continues to carry lingering effects into today’s contests scheduled for Kearney Baseball.

Originally, the Bearcats were set to host Grand Island and Lincoln East at Memorial Field on Wednesday and Thursday respectively. The matchups were then rescheduled to a home triangular for today, until Memorial Field was deemed unplayable due to field conditions from lingering snow coverage.

Instead, the Bearcats will now head to Ryder Park in Grand Island as the Islanders will host the triangular beginning at 11 AM with GISH and Lincoln East. The Spartans will match up with Kearney around 1 PM, with Kearney facing Grand Island to follow in the final afternoon game.

KGFW will provide radio coverage of the KHS/LE contest due to the ongoing St. Jude Radiothon. Pregame is scheduled around 12:45 PM with first pitch anticipated at 1 PM.

Join Austin Jacobsen for the action on 1340 KGFW, 96.1 FM, on the free KGFW mobile app, and online at KGFW.com.

NEBRASKA BASEBALL BEGINS CONFERENCE PLAY IN EVANSTON:

Brett Sears is set to toe the rubber in the series opener this afternoon. Sears is 4-0 in six starts, posting a 1.14 ERA and 43 strikeouts in 39.1 innings, while holding opponents to a .119 hitting clip.
