A powerful low-pressure system turning northeastward toward the upper Great Lakes region will begin to weaken during Wednesday, although rain- and wind-related impacts will linger in the Midwest. Subsequently, a trailing disturbance will produce late-week showers and thunderstorms from the central and southern Plains into the East, while chilly air will spread across the northern U.S. Some snow will fall, as well, on the central High Plains. Late-week freezes could extend as far south as the central High Plains.
